Sospel is on the South-East Line des Maginots of The Second World War
a Fort which can be visited Saturdays and Sundays and bank holidays tel +33(0)493 04 15 80
There are four Fort emplacements local to Sospel, two of which are within the town
Skiing
An hour from Sospel, the ski slopes of Limone Piemonte are open and buzzing in winter. A lovely drive from Sospel to the Valley de la Roya via le Col de Bruis, then the Col de Tende and Limone. It is not an expensive place, very friendly, tuition can be given in English, Italian and French. The village boasts a number of very nice restaurants which should be tried.
At Limone – Col de Tende; La reserve blanche – One of the most important skiing station of South Alps situated in France and Italy. 105km of ski slopes, altitude 1000-2300m. Easy to get to from Sospel, even in winter as the train from Nice to Cuneo via Sospel stops at Limone Piemonte.
